Online car insurance 'saves time and hassle'
Posted :06-07-2005
An increasing number of motorists are buying car insurance online as a result of ease, as well as due to the savings which can be made, a study has found. Many car insurance brokers offer discounts to motorists purchasing insurance online, yet this is not the only motivation behind Britons purchasing cover over the internet. Comparing insurance quotes online is not only convenient, but can save time and cut out the need for foreign call centres. Nearly a half (47 per cent) of car insurance quotes take over ten minutes to obtain by phone, according to a study by Swinton, which also found that 681,000 motorists cite poor service from foreign call centres as a primary factor behind buying car insurance online. "Our research suggests that motorists are dissatisfied with the service they get from foreign call centres," said Andrew Jackson of Swinton. Although the majority of motorists (60 per cent) buy car insurance over the phone, compared to the 23 per cent who purchase it online, an increasing number of Britons are turning to the internet to buy car insurance. Recent research found that it takes an average of just 55 minutes and 11 seconds to find the most competitive car insurance policy online, in which time motorists will have acquired seven different quotes.
