Seven the magic number when shopping around

Shopping around for insurance takes under an hour, and is worth the time, new research shows.

An on-line survey has shown that drivers are likely to find their most competitive deal by getting seven car insurance quotes.

Tailored quotes can be obtained from seven different companies in less than one hour, and can save an average of £52.

However, according to the survey, shoppers spend only 20 minutes on line looking for quotes, with less than one per cent of motorists actually obtaining this quota.

According to Cindy Kenny from insure121.com: "The majority of the UK's 26 million drivers don’t look properly, or don’t shop around at all.

"Realistically, people renew their current car insurance with their existing insurance company.

"More than seven out of ten who shopped around for their renewal quote obtained three quotes or less.

"However, even getting three quotes can reduce your premium."

The average yearly UK car insurance premium is £460, but owners driving the same make and model vehicle in the same towns and cities can pay a difference of £110 in their insurance.
