School run drivers hazardous
Posted :02-09-2005
Parents on the school run have topped the league of worst drivers on British roads, according to a motor insurance industry survey. School run drivers were judged the biggest hazard ahead of white van men, taxi drivers and 4x4 drivers, according to the 70,000 adult drivers who took part in the poll. Whilst parents on the way to school gained one fifth of the duff driving votes, white van drivers were actually judged to be quite gracious by other road users. According to the poll they were in fact the most likely to wave thanks when other drivers gave way. Motor insurance spokeswoman Emma Holyer commented: "It is sometimes easy to let our misconceptions get in the way and take to driving in an aggressive manner simply because we don't want other motorists to get the better of us." "However this research shows driver stereotypes are more fiction than fact, and we should try to be courteous to all motorists - no matter what they are driving."
