Insure your car against vandalism
Posted :30-09-2005
Vandals are targeting more cars than ever, after research shows six out of ten motorists have been the victims of vandalism in the past year. This equates to some five million cars being attacked in the last 12 months although research revealed more than half of all victims would not report the crime to the police. According to the Direct Line survey, the majority of motorists (93 per cent) say they are very concerned about the crime some even boycotting journeys to areas where they believe their cars would be at a greater risk from damage. Emma Holyer, Direct Lines motor spokesperson said vandalism is a growing concern for car owners. "Many motorists believe this type of crime only happens in inner cities or car parks whereas your car is actually most at risk parked in a quiet dark street away from any street lamps," she added. Motorists are urged to use their driveways and garages if they have them and to park in well-lit areas, in order to lower the risk of their cars being vandalised. "It is a worry that motorists feel so concerned about vandalism that it is putting them off buying the car of their choice," said Ms Holyer. "The reality is that this is an opportunist crime and vandals can strike any car at any time." Motorists who are concerned about vandalism are being urged to protect themselves with comprehensive insurance cover.
