'Odious Rodius' voted ugliest car
Posted :12-10-2005
Ssangyong's Rodius has been voted the ugliest car on Britain's roads, beating stiff competition from the likes of Fiat's original Multipla, the "weirdest looking car on the road". The Japanese believe cars have souls that shine through in their appearance - meaning many of the vehicles in the cardata.co.uk poll must have been very unhappy to say the least. Dubbed the "Odious Rodius" by its detractors, the Ssangyong model picked up nearly a third of all the votes in the poll of 1,500 car enthusiasts, beating its nearest 'competitor' by ten per cent. Despite being described as "so ugly it could frighten small children" and looking like a "surprised hippopotamus" by various car reviewers, Ssangyong unashamedly insist the car simply "comes with a strong emotional component that will make it a focus of attention" and a dashboard flower vase. Second place went to the controversially unhealthy-looking Fiat Multipla (Mark I), with third place surprisingly going to Mercedes' Maybach a car with a £250,000 price tag. However, Andrew Sobell, a spokesman for the website told the Telegraph the results were obviously subjective. "For example, everyone always notes the Multipla, but its design quirks continue to be a major appeal for many observers and buyers alike," he said. "One man's ugliness is another man's beauty," he mused.
