'Car insurance should be checked' as clocks go back
Posted :28-10-2005
UK motorists are being urged to take extra care on the roads as an extra hour of darkness is added to the evenings this weekend. As the clocks go back on Saturday night, darker evenings and colder temperatures herald the worst season for car accidents in the UK, with driving conditions often compromised on the wintry roads. Lloyds TSB Car insurance is advising motorists to perform checks on their vehicles to help ensure safe journeys over the coming months. The insurance company suggests checking all exterior lights are working properly, along with front and rear wipers, as visibility is a key cause of road traffic accidents at night and over winter. Checking tyre pressure and tread depth is also essential as icy conditions begin to set in to guard against skids and loss of control over wet and slippery road surfaces. "If there's one day where caution on the roads is an absolute must, it's the day the clocks change," claims Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance. "It might sound obvious that darker evenings mean more dangerous driving conditions, but the importance of taking special care on the roads at this time of year cannot be underestimated," he said. Mr Loney also pointed out that as not all car insurance is created equal it is always worth double checking insurance documents, or searching for a cheaper motor insurance quote online.
