Edinburgh 'safest city' for drivers
Posted :31-10-2005
The Scottish capital has been named one of the UK's 'safest cities' for motorists, according to a recent survey. The survey included the number of thefts of cars in the last four years, along with the number of accidents and car insurance claims. Edinburgh joins Belfast, Cambridge and Aberdeen in the list of 'safe cities', with Aberdeen reporting the lowest number of car thefts in the UK 52.2 per cent below the national average. Endsleigh, who compiled the data using policy data from the last four years, also found that the most dangerous cities for accidents were London, Birmingham and Manchester, whilst car thefts were most common in Leeds, Bristol and Manchester. Edinburgh, which scored highly for its low accident figures, was particularly praised for the Central Traffic Management strategy the council has employed which looks to have made a difference to the figures. Swansea was named one of the safest places to drive in, yet had one of the worst car theft records. The survey suggests motorists are safe whilst driving around the Welsh city, but if they stop and leave their car they are in danger of having it broken into. Motorists in all cities are advised to regularly check they have the cheapest motor insurance available and to search online for cheap car insurance quotes, as recent overall national figures show little change in car crime figures.
