Christmas car insurance renewal warning
Posted :08-12-2005
British car owners are being warned not to overlook their car insurance renewal notice over the busy and hectic Christmas period. Car insurance provider Privilege claims many drivers are left uninsured as there are no 'days of grace' to give motorists who miss their renewal some leeway. Experts warn that, unless policyholders sign up to have their insurance deals automatically renewed, they must generally respond within 21 days of a renewal notice being issued by their provider. In many cases, this notice is unseen or ignored over the Christmas period, as cards, presents and other bills take over. However, the insurance firm points out that over 34,000 accidents took place last December and January, with many drivers finding themselves uninsured as their renewal dates fell at the end of the year. Ian Parker, managing director of Privilege, said: "Christmas can be a busy time and, amidst all the excitement, it is easy to overlook chores such as renewing your car insurance. But forgetting to do so can have serious and expensive consequences. "A quick call to your insurer, and perhaps one or two others for comparison, will enable you to relax and enjoy the rest of the festivities."
