Online car insurance proving popular

New figures have revealed a surge in the number of people taking out car insurance over the internet.

Research carried out by Sainsbury's Bank and GfK Financial has discovered that an increasing number of people are now turning to the internet to search for the best deals and to apply online for car insurance.

The study claims that motor insurance is now one of the most researched financial products on the internet, with online applications jumping by almost a quarter (23 per cent) over the past year.

While in the past concerns over internet security may have put people off applying online, it now seems that an increasingly internet-savvy nation is becoming more at home taking out insurance policies via their computer.

As Kevin Barrett, Sainsbury's Bank director of commerce, points out: "The web plays a crucial role in the financial services industry, helping to provide customers with a convenient way to manage their finances."

"Society now operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and as such the 9am to 5am traditional banking model is being left behind," he added.
