Number plate thefts soar
Posted :21-12-2005
An increasing number of motorists in London are becoming victims of car number plate theft, underlining the importance of having adequate car insurance. Fraudulent motorists looking to avoid the capital's £8 congestion charge are stealing number plates from other vehicles so that the victims are charged with the cost of visiting the city centre. The Times reveals that as many as 6,500 number plates have been stolen since April this year in London alone, while a total of 26 police forces have reported more than 14,000 number plate thefts across the country. As such some police forces have started issuing special screws which ruin the plates if someone tries to unscrew them. However, despite efforts to combat the growing crime, the phenomenon is a clear example of the importance for motorists to invest in cheap car insurance, as this can ensure that any such criminal activities carried out will not cause unnecessary expense to honest motorists.
