Tips for young drivers to reduce car insurance premiums
Posted :24-02-2006
Young, inexperienced drivers are statistically far more likely to be involved in an accident than more mature motorists, usually resulting in extortionate car insurance premiums. But novice drivers who do not shop around for their car insurance could be wasting significant sums for their failure to find the best deal. As a result, Hoot Car Insurance Services has published some advice for newly-qualified drivers to reduce their premium costs. The group advises enrolling on an advanced PassPluss driving course, which teaches driving at night, on motorways and under more treacherous road conditions than are generally experienced during normal lessons. Schemes such as this provide motorists with greater experience and can be invaluable in reducing car insurance premiums, often by a significant margin. Nevertheless, car insurance remains expensive for young people, meaning that many decide to remain as named drivers on their parents' car, rather than taking out a policy for themselves. But while this may save money in the short-term, drivers are warned that this will work out far more expensive in the long-run as they will not accrue their own no claims bonus. As a result, when young drivers finally get their own motor insurance, instead of having a cheap premiums because of several years of no-claims, motorists will have to start from scratch and pay out for an expensive policy. Meanwhile, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has launched a new website to cut the number of crashes among the UK's novice drivers and motorcyclists. Funded by the Department of Transport, the site contains information about private practice, professional lessons, the driving test itself and motoring law.
