Holidaymakers urged to check car insurance
Posted :29-06-2005
Motorists travelling overseas this summer have been urged to ensure they have insurance which will provide adequate protection while driving abroad.
According to car insurance company Churchill, 7.8 million Britons take their cars across the channel each year, not all of which will have the same level of cover when abroad, as they have in the UK.
Motorists are urged to check their car insurance before heading to foreign pastures, with different insurers and different premiums providing various levels of cover and are also advised not to automatically purchase the cheapest car insurance.
Outlining this advice, Darren McCauley, head of car insurance at Churchill, said: "Motorists should check with their insurer before they travel that they have adequate cover for their needs."
All insurers are required to provide third party car insurance cover for motorists driving abroad and most tend to provide comprehensive cover on the continent for a limited number of days.
