North-west and London boats highest car insurance
Posted :26-04-2006
Unfortunate motorists living in the north-west and London are paying the highest car insurance costs in the country, according to new research. Tesco's Car Insurance Checkout found that drivers in the north-west and London were in some cases paying up to 44 per cent more than motorists elsewhere in the country, with north-westerners paying an average of £541 and £563 in London, compared to a national average of just £442. This is in large part due to more claims, higher levels of car related crime and sheer volume of traffic forcing insurers to push up premiums. By contrast, drivers in East Anglia who pay the cheapest average car insurance premiums of £329, with Scottish drivers paying £335, Wales on £365 and the South West paying £368. However, stark regional differences mean that while drivers in the north-west are paying the highest average car insurance premiums they can potentially save more than any other drivers by shopping around for their insurance. Allan Burns of Tesco Car Insurance said: "While motorists in the North West are paying above the national average, the good news is that they could save a significant amount of money simply by shopping around." The price difference between the cheapest and most expensive car insurance providers in the North West was £321, compared to a difference of just £144 in the Midlands. Mr Burns added: "Our study shows there are significant differences in pricing among insurers. This is an increasingly competitive market, so there are deals to be had simply by shopping around."
