Pru: 72% of motorists have broken down
Posted :03-07-2006
More than one in three motorists (72 per cent) have broken down, according to new research from Prudential Car Insurance. Commenting on the figures, which also revealed that 61 per cent of people have had to wait over an hour for assistance, Phil Southgate, media relations manager for the insurer, said that "Brits seem to be suffering from apathy behind the wheel". Referring to breakdown cover, he also revealed that 12 per cent of respondents do not have a policy because they never got round to taking one out. Mr Southgate added that as modern cars are becoming increasingly complex, it is "almost impossible" for drivers to fix any automotive problems themselves. Earlier this month, Peter Gerrard, speaking on behalf of insuresupermarket, told the Observer that a range of providers, the AA, the RAC and Green Flag, are offering "very competitive" breakdown cover.
