Most UK consumers favour eco-friendly products and services
Posted :05-07-2006
The majority of consumers in the UK would prefer an eco-friendly product, according to new research by motor insurer Co-operative Insurance. Over 85 per cent of consumers favour eco-friendly products and ethical consumerism is now over £3.4 billion a year, the research found. Certain car insurers offer discounted deals for drivers of hybrids and other eco-friendly cars. David Neave, Director of General Insurance at CIS, said: "Whilst many people accept that motoring is a necessary means of transport, many motorists now recognise the environmental impact that driving a car has on climate change. "From our annual Ethical Consumerism Report, it is apparent that more and more consumers are becoming environmentally aware, which then influences what they buy, including the purchase of cars. A full 54 per cent of consumers would rather buy an eco-friendly product, even if it cost a little more, the survey found. Also 63 per cent of respondents said that there was definitely a place for eco-friendly products in the most markets. Lately, ubiquitous American car giant Ford decided that its previously stated goal of producing 25,000 hybrid vehicles by the end of the decade was impractical, Reuters reports.
