New technology to record car smashes
Posted :24-07-2006
Car accidents can now be recorded with an innovative device that works like an airplanes black box recorder. The location and time of the accident, as well as the accident itself can be recorded by the Tru-Scene TS-1L, made by Vehicle Camera Systems, which can solve accident-liability car insurance conflicts. Vehicle designers will be able to learn lessons from footage of crashes that will tell them how they happened and how they can be avoided in the future. The company states: "The TruScene TS-1L is a single lens camera unit, internally mounted on the front windscreen, there is also an option to purchase a rear mounted camera for fitting to the rear screen. "A drop down LCD screen is incorporated, enabling the unit to be correctly aligned on first fitting." The system ingeniously "predicts" accidents, switching on when a certain level of g-force is reached. Users can also switch the system on manually and images stored by the system will be encrypted and watermarked to avoid fraud of any kind. The technology is being shown at the London Motor Show, which will end on July 30th.
