UK's most dangerous driver locked up
Posted :27-07-2006
The country's most dangerous motorist has finally been given a jail sentence, when he was caught driving while banned for the 48th time.
Jamie Manderson, of Swindon, was jailed for five months after admitting to driving while banned.
Mr Manderson has been banned from driving every year, starting in 1988, when he was 15 and has nearly 200 previous convictions.
Magistrate Mamie Beasant told Manderson: "If you keep on disobeying court orders, you will keep being brought back to this court and, I can promise you, you will go to prison."
A two-year driving ban was also issued to the incorrigible nightclub bouncer.
The police spotted Mr Manderson parking a BMW on June 27th and promptly arrested him, after he admitted he was banned from driving and had been driving without insurance.
Solicitor for Mr Manderson, Rob Ross, said his client had "an addiction to cars", as well as heroin.
Even a single driving conviction can cause a drivers' insurance premiums to rise drastically.
