Uncertain Brits leery of driving abroad
Posted :31-07-2006
Most Brits don't feel confident behind the wheel when in another country, a recent survey has found.
While over half of British drivers – 57 per cent – will end up taking their cars abroad, over two thirds will not feel comfortable doing so, according to a survey by Prudential.
The spectres of strange road signs, driving on the wrong side of the road, unfamiliar roads, uncertainty about driving laws and negotiating roundabouts from the right hand side, are British motorists top fears.
Phil Southgate, media relations manager comments: "With almost two-thirds of drivers nervous about driving abroad, it is vital they double check what protection their policy will offer once they cross the Channel.
"Should they be involved in an accident some drivers may otherwise find themselves at a loss with only third party insurance despite having fire and theft or even fully comprehensive cover in the UK."
Experts from Prudential say that nervousness itself could be a factor in many accidents.
The French authorities have launched a new crackdown on foreign drivers breaking driving laws recently, according to charity injurywatch.
