Safe drivers can save thousands

Drivers who have four years without making an insurance claim, could save up to £10,000 throughout their life, because they pay lower car insurance premiums, recent information shows.

Safe drivers can save £203 or more a year than those with convictions, or who have made an insurance claim, research from Privilege car insurance has found.

The data shows that those who have safe driving records pay approximately £310 per year for car insurance, while those who have had accidents pay about £510 per year.

Ian Parker, managing director of Privilege Insurance, said: "The research shows that safe drivers are saving thousands of pounds by staying accident free, as well as making the roads a safer place for us all.

"While insurance is sometimes seen as a boring necessity, driving safely and obeying the rules of the road are important and that is why Privilege feels it is essential to reward those drivers who do so."

One action that can also drive insurance premiums up is customising one's vehicle, according to Privilege.

Meanwhile, insurance fraud alone causes a five per cent increase in insurance premiums, according to the BBC.
