Female drivers who use car as office-on-wheels warned
Posted :04-08-2006
Women motorists have been issued a stern reminder to concentrate on the road, rather than applying make-up or chatting on a mobile phone.
A public warning was issued to women not to think of their car as a mobile office by Evecar, the motoring section of Eve magazine.
The magazine quoted the statistic that 3,000 women are killed or seriously injured every year in car accidents.
Evecar editor Lesley Jones said: "It's easy to treat your car as a combination of home, entertainment centre, office and beauty parlour, especially if you're a busy mum who finds it is the only space you have to get organised.
"But think of it as a multifunctional vehicle only when you're parked up."
Such bad driving habits can result in a mishap that could have negative consequences on one's car insurance premiums, according to the Association of British Insurers.
A recent study by NatWest car insurance found that many drivers ignore advice such as not to eat and drink while driving and to take breaks if tired on the road.
