Future students 'should shop around for motor quotes'
Posted :22-08-2006
Students planning their next car purchase, as well as new motor insurance policies, can make savings if they shop around for the best deals, according to credit reference agency Experian.
The agency suggests that many students-to-be will be considering buying a new vehicle in the coming months, as the new university term draws closer.
Experian explains that by looking for the best deals, which can often be found during the summer months, future students and their parents can make savings – money, which can be put towards the consequent car insurance costs.
Rob Whalley, managing director of the automotive division at Experian, says: "Around 26 per cent of the entire used car sales transactions for the year take place during July, August and September, coinciding with new car registrations.
"As a result, it is a very popular time for parents to pick up a bargain for their son or daughter pre-university."
However, Mr Whalley warns that a third of vehicles could have the incorrect history, which would impact upon motor insurance policies later on.
Would-be students will be considering how to manage the cost of running a car at university in conjunction with accommodation expenses, tuition fees and general living costs.
