Women's car insurance premiums drop even lower
Posted :31-08-2006
Already lower than ever, women's car insurance premiums have dropped by 8.2 per cent this year, according to research by price comparison website moneysupermarket.com
On the other hand, men's car insurance premiums have only dropped by 1.7 per cent.
Last year the average car insurance premium for a female driver was £712, which has dropped to £654 this year, according to moneysupermarket.com.
Peter Gerrard, senior researcher at moneysupermarket.com, said: "Overall, insurance premiums have dropped almost five per cent, but the cost for women has fallen much further than for men over the past year.
"This is due to the growing appeal of specialist competitors such as Sheilas' Wheels and Diamond, as well as insurers increasingly reflecting women's safer driving profile into their pricing."
Due to the fact that inflation is rising, it will be interesting to see whether insurers will be capable of keeping premiums so low, Mr Gerrard continued.
Recently Sheila's Wheels offered a new motor insurance package, which includes the installation of a blow up doll passenger to make women drivers feel safer driving at night and in bad areas.
