Insurer offers text quotes

For the first time ever, a major insurer is offering motor insurance quotes by text message.

The insurer, swiftcover.com, is to offer a service, dubbed Swift Text, that will allow a consumer to have an insurance quote texted straight to their phone in less than five minutes.

Developed by a company called Text2Insure, the service will work on any mobile phone with SMS text capability.

Andrew Blowers, chief executive of swiftcover.com comments: "Swift Text is a clear example of our commitment to innovation.

"In an era when many consider their lives to be negatively affected by time pressures, our aim is to enable consumers to purchase insurance quickly and at their convenience."

The service will be for motor insurance quotes exclusively, home and travel insurance will not be available under the service.

Recently insurer esure has started to offer its policies in downloadable MP3 format, so customers can take them on holiday in an easily manageable format.
