Be a calm motorist with the latest tunes
Posted :11-10-2006
If you find yourself getting stressed out during rush hour traffic, new research has revealed that music could help you to calm down and relax.
Some 77 per cent of people said that listening to music helps them to unwind, with the figure rising to 88 per cent of 18 to 29-year-olds, according to Legal & General.
Lack of sleep, general fatigue and everyday stress were found to be three of the top five health concerns and a quarter of people said their health could be affected by their daily routine.
"Music is proving to be a helpful stress buster," said Chris Rolland, managing director at Legal & General. "Stress and tiredness-related conditions are top of the public's agenda".
The research discovered that chart pop topped the list of music types people find most relaxing, followed by classical music, classic rock, alternative and soul.
The Highway Code recommends not listening to music that is too loud as this may mask other noises and cause a distraction. It also says that driving when fatigued greatly increases the risk of an accident which could lead to car insurance claims.
