'Vandalism hotspots do not affect motor insurance'
Posted :24-11-2006
Those living in vandalism hotspots find only a slight different in their insurance premiums, it has been claimed.
According to Direct Line, every postcode is considered for an insurance quote differently and those living in so-called hotspots such as Manchester, Edinburgh and Birmingham may not necessarily be affected by increased premiums.
In addition, the motor insurance company stated that one in three people are not placing a claim if they experience smaller instances of vandalism in order to protect their no-claims bonus.
Emma Hoyler, spokesperson for Direct Line, said that this may be because the cost of a claim can equal the excess amount.
"A lot of people instead of losing their no-claims bonus will just pay for the damage themselves," she remarked.
Motor insurance premiums are based on a number of factors which can include any driving convictions held and the engine size of the car.
