Agency urges drivers to protect motor insurance premiums in poor weather
Posted :19-12-2006
Drivers who do not want to put their motor insurance premiums in danger this winter have been warned to take extra care in foggy and freezing conditions.
According to the Highways Agency, severe weather is forecast during today and the rest of the coming week, with fog expected to affect the south-east and north-east of England.
Motorists are being urged to use dipped headlights or fog lights during periods of poor visibility, however fog lights can obscure brake lights and dazzle other road users so should be turned off as soon as visibility improves.
Tailgating is one mistake which should be avoided by drivers looking to keep their motor insurance premiums intact, according to the agency.
It states that the practice is dangerous and could obscure potential hazards, especially when visibility is limited.
Police in Peterborough are currently warning motorists to take extra time travelling through foggy conditions following a fatal accident and a number of minor incidents on the roads in Cambridgeshire, the Evening Telegraph reports.
