Drivers advised to "prepare themselves" for bad weather
Posted :17-01-2007
Drivers in Scotland are being advised to take extra care as cold and icy weather conditions have been forecast for the next week.
Chief Inspector Donald McMillan is warning motorists to take necessary precautions to avoid being "caught out" and possibly having an accident which could result in a car insurance claim.
The weather, he said, will be "significantly different to what drivers have been used to over the past few weeks".
But while those in Scotland may be particularly affected, motorists across the UK may also need to take extra care during the winter months which can cause icy roads, heavy showers, a reduction in visibility and the need for longer stopping distances.
In addition, Chief Inspector McMillan is suggesting that drivers avoid sharp braking and allow extra time for journeys.
According to the BBC's weather forecast, the coming weekend could bring showers and temperatures as low as one degree C.
