AA: Drivers are getting greener
Posted :22-03-2007
People buying cars in the UK have become more environmentally conscious, new research has revealed.
According to a study by from AA Personal Loans, the proportion of people buying cars on environmental terms has more than trebled in the last 12 months, while demand for aesthetically pleasing gas-guzzlers has hit an all-time low.
"The rapid growth of the green agenda among car buyers over the last year is very significant," said Lloyd East, director of AA Personal Loans.
"With a fifth of all car buyers today going green, the environmental agenda is being driven into the heart of the motor industry - over family estates, saloon cars and people carriers," he added.
The Deals on Wheels study from AA Personal Loans also revealed that one in four Brits plan to change their car in 2007 and the green agenda represents the most significant factor in people's decision making process.
Demand for sports cars has dropped to six per cent, while just two per cent of respondents claim that impressing their neighbours is a contributing car-buying factor.
Deals on Wheels is a quarterly publication from AA Personal Loans.
