Holidaymakers 'should check their car insurance'
Posted :26-03-2007
UK holidaymakers seeking a break on the continent are being advised to ensure that their motor insurance policies cover them for overseas travel.
According to American Express Insurance Services, more than 3.1 million Britons drive their cars in Europe each year.
Furthermore, the insurer reveals that for those who are not adequately insured, the cost to get back home can reach £2,000.
Additionally, research from the car insurance provider reveals that more than one in ten UK residents has broken down while driving abroad.
"Breaking down is never a pleasant experience, let alone when abroad," commented Joanne Field, marketing manager at American Express Insurance Services.
She added that over 350,000 drivers had to seek help with their cars while on holiday in summer.
"I would recommend that anyone driving on the continent checks their breakdown policy to ensure they are covered abroad," Ms Field.
