Motorists warned to ensure car maintenance
Posted :04-04-2007
Motoring groups have issued advice to drivers set to hit British roads this weekend, with the possession of appropriate motor insurance key to ensuring a stress-free holiday.
According to statistics released by the RAC in partnership with Trafficmaster, traffic levels will be 100 per cent higher than at normal weekends, with routes to holiday hotspots particularly likely to see congestion and severe hold-ups.
Last year, the RAC came to the aid of 100,000 motorists who had locked themselves out of their cars, so drivers are being encouraged to ensure that their policies cover such call-outs, while with some drivers pushing themselves to get to their destinations, accidents may unfortunately occur on UK roads this weekend.
Additionally, the RAC has advised motorists to check basic maintenance details before setting off, including oil and water levels and tyre pressure.
Saga recently found that many of the three million Britons who will drive abroad this year will do so during the Easter holidays and are consequently urging drivers to check that they are insured to drive outside of the UK.
