Car insurance firm offers school run safety tips
Posted :16-04-2007
Parents must ensure that they take steps to keep their children secure during the school run, one car insurance provider has advised.
According to advice from Sainsbury's Bank, parents should not become complacent on the familiar journey and ensure their children are wearing seatbelts of using booster seats.
The car insurance provider suggests that drivers should remain vigilant during the school run and use car seats to avoid breaking the law.
Steve Johnson, head of car insurance at Sainsbury's Bank, explained: "The familiarity of the route coupled by the often short distances travelled may make parents feel overly confident and therefore less aware of the dangers involved in the school run."
The advice follows research from the motor insurance provider which revealed that 24 per cent of parents are unaware that children under the age of 12 or below the height of 135 cm are required by law to use a booster seat.
Regulations were introduced in September 2006 to encourage the use of car and booster seats in a bid to cut the number of children killed in road accidents each year.
