Three vehicles each for 3.5m Brits, says car insurance firm
Posted :17-04-2007
A total of 3.5 million Britons own three or more cars, new research has discovered.
While the survey, from Prudential Car Insurance (PCI), found 74 per cent of British drivers get behind the wheel every day, it also discovered one in five people were worried about the effect their vehicle is having on the environment.
And rather than having one car, the 3.5 million people with three or more vehicles could be contributing to a larger carbon footprint than most, in addition to the extra costs involved in providing adequate motor insurance for each one.
Phil Southgate, a spokesman for PCI, remarked on the possible reasons behind UK car usage.
"It seems that many Brits have lost faith in our public transport system and prefer to use their cars, believing that is a far more reliable form of transport," he said.
Indeed, 57 per cent of those questioned said they considered their car to be a necessity.
Prudential also offers home insurance to customers in addition to motor insurance.
