Young drivers "more likely to crash"
Posted :19-04-2007
Lack of driving experience and a different attitude towards the road makes younger drivers more likely to crash than their older counterparts, it is claimed.
Following recommendations from the Association of British Insurers to the government on more training for younger or new motorists, NFU Mutual said it is "concerned" by the number of deaths and injuries sustained by the group on UK roads.
In addition, the financial services provider is offering tips on safer driving, which could reduce the risk of an accident and a potentially costly car insurance claim.
Advice includes ensuring all passengers wear seatbelts, not eating or drinking at the wheel, sticking to the designated speed limit and not playing music too loud so as to keep full concentration on the road.
Moreover, motorists who want to gain more experience after they pass their test can choose to undertake a Pass Plus course, which covers aspects such as driving at night, on motorways and on dual carriageways.
