Driving is 'essential for 73% of motorists'
Posted :30-04-2007
Almost three-quarters of drivers in the UK have admitted they could not live without their car, new research reveals.
In a survey by Zurich, 73 per cent of motorists said although costs for running a vehicle may have increased, they would not get rid of their wheels.
Although 74 per cent maintain they have to budget more carefully as a result of owning a car, one-fifth of drivers admitted to delaying payments such as tax and car insurance in order to reduce their motoring bills.
However, this could have further-reaching consequences if an accident were to occur, comments Mark Searles, chief marketing officer at Zurich.
"The most worrying findings from our research are those that show some drivers are risking their own and others' safety in a bid to save money," he remarks.
"We need to change those attitudes and remember that it is a legal requirement to have both a valid MOT and insurance."
Zurich also provides home insurance.
