Courtesy car 'not provided by 80% of policies'
Posted :02-05-2007
Those looking to switch car insurance policies may be interested in new research which found that four out of five cover plans do not provide a courtesy car in the event of theft or damage.
According to M&S Money, 62 per cent of drivers believe they will get a courtesy car if theirs is written off or stolen, but 80 per cent of policies do not give this service as standard.
Indeed, of those whose insurance does not offer a replacement car, 28 per cent said they had another vehicle they could use and 24 per cent said they would have to borrow or hire one, which can incur extra costs.
"It's alarming that so many motorists believe that they will get a courtesy car whatever happens to theirs," remarked Brendan Cook, chief executive of M&S Money.
"Those unfortunate enough to have their car written off or stolen are left high and dry by most insurers," he continued.
M&S Money also offers travel cover in addition to car insurance.
