Car insurance customers 'over there but unaware'
Posted :28-06-2007
Millions of British holidaymakers could be putting themselves at risk by driving overseas without adequate car insurance cover, it has been claimed.
Car insurance provider Marks & Spencer (M&S) Money said that almost half of British drivers do not know whether they are covered for European roads, potentially leaving them in a pickle if they hire a car while holidaying.
In addition to car insurance, the company found that four out of five Britons would not have any breakdown cover for incidents that occurred in Europe.
Steve Price, M&S Money insurance manager, commented: "It's important to be aware of whats required for driving in Europe as you may be caught out quite easily."
He added that drivers could face a fine if they are caught in a vehicle without their licence and car insurance documentation.
On the UK roads, many Britons may have had their vehicles damaged by the recent flooding, potentially resulting in car insurance claims.
