Dundee 'most car-friendly', says motor insurance firm
Posted :19-07-2007
The Scottish city of Dundee has been named as the UK's most car-friendly location in an annual survey carried out by Virgin Money Car Insurance.
Although motor insurance firms often take into account where a car owner resides, the research unveiled this week judged cities and towns on factors such as the cost of parking, level of car crime and amount of congestion.
In addition to being cheapest for petrol, Dundee was ranked first overall, followed by Aberdeen, Telford, Ipswich and Dudley.
Others which scored high in the top ten included Norwich, Poole and West Bromwich, while the worst place for drivers was found to be Cardiff, behind Nottingham and London.
The car insurance company's spokesperson Jason Wyer-Smith said it was clear the UK was a car-loving nation, but motoring experiences can vary greatly across the country.
"Every motorist will have their own definition of driving hell, whether it's hunting for a parking space, being stuck in a traffic jam or being caught by a speeding camera for a momentary lapse," he added.
Drivers may need to remember that if caught by a speed camera, they could face a fine and penalty points, which in turn may cause motor insurance premiums to rise.
