DfT: UK traffic has increased
Posted :26-07-2007
Car insurance customers may be interested to hear that traffic levels in the UK rose between 2005 and 2006, according to new research.
The Department for Transport's (DfT) Road Statistics 2006 found that traffic levels increased by seven billion vehicle kilometres, leading the total number to exceed the 500 billion vehicle kilometre mark for the first time.
The research also found that car traffic accounted for over three-quarters of all motor vehicle traffic, 28 per cent of which was on rural 'A' roads and 20 per cent on motorways.
And while there may be ways to avoid traffic hotspots, slow-moving cars can sometimes be a prime situation where a bump or scrape can occur.
Customers who want to check or switch their car insurance could find cheaper quotes by looking online.
