Drivers admit to rowing with wardens
Posted :31-07-2007
A total of one in five UK drivers has admitted to arguing with traffic wardens over a parking space, in news which may be of interest to car insurance customers.
In a survey for the RAC Foundation, it was also found that 25 per cent of motorists in London have rowed with another driver on the same issue, while 70 per cent said they found parking difficult and 65 per cent think rules on the matter are confusing.
Although most car insurance providers do not take parking tickets into account when calculating premiums, the fixed penalties can end up being a financial nuisance - and parking in the wrong spot could put the vehicle at risk.
"Local authorities should think hard and consult widely before introducing any new charging or parking schemes," said the Foundation's Edmund King.
In related news, a recent article in the Times highlighted the potential dangers of too many road signs, which could distract motorists.
The RAC Foundation's head of campaigns Sheila Rainger told the paper: "Too much information can be as detrimental to road safety as none at all."
