Experience 'will reduce car insurance'
Posted :03-08-2007
A driver with more experience under their belt will pay lower car insurance premiums, it has been suggested by an expert in the sector.
Although factors such as the car's engine size and any driving convictions are taken into account when cover is calculated, Admiral spokesperson James Carnduff stressed the importance of getting good experience and becoming a safer driver.
This, he continued, may reduce car insurance costs - because a safer motorist is less likely to make a claim and less likely to have a conviction.
"A big factor is certainly what car you drive," he said. "Definitely younger drivers are seen as a higher risk
it's a lack of experience as well."
"[But] as you get older, that drops off
people tend to become safer drivers and have less accidents."
While it is thought that people gradually gain more experience on the road, figures from the Association of British Insurers found the number of deaths involving young drivers has been rising in recent years.
Data from the group discovered that 12 per cent of people killed on UK road's in 2005 were aged between 16 and 19 - which represents a ten per cent increase from five years earlier.
