Garages 'reduce car insurance'
Posted :07-08-2007
Keeping a vehicle in a garage is recognised by most car insurance firms as representing less of a risk and therefore they can reduce premiums, the British insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) has claimed.
Technical services manager Graeme Trudgill said storing a car inside a garage lowers the "theft and vandalism factor" and most car insurers will provide a discount if this is done.
While he said that many car insurance companies have a different view as to what warrants a discount, clearing out your garage and keeping a car in it overnight could make a difference.
"Particularly if you live in London, if you have a high-value or a sporty car, it could be quite a bit more expensive if you don't have your vehicle secure, off the road, in a garage," Mr Trudgill continued.
In related news, Biba also commented this week on the importance of shopping around to find the most suitable car insurance deal.
