Beware of flood damage, says car insurance firm
Posted :08-08-2007
Although many people will be starting to repair their property following July's floods across the UK, consumers are also being warned to beware of cars which may have been damaged during the extreme weather.
According to the AA, some people may attempt to sell their damaged cars on the used vehicle market and pass them off as in good working order.
This, explained head of AA Car Insurance Janet Pell, could be to avoid making a car insurance claim or to offload potentially costly repairs onto an unwitting buyer.
"People buying from private vendors especially should take care that they're not buying a flood-affected vehicle," she added.
"The fraudulent sale of cars is a growing problem and seemingly clean but flood-affected cars will be an easy gain for criminals."
Drivers may want to use this opportunity to check any new or existing car insurance policies to see what is covered should a car be damaged by flooding or extreme weather conditions.
