'Take car insurance policy on holiday'
Posted :09-08-2007
Motorists are being urged to take their car insurance documents away with them on holiday to be fully prepared should an accident occur.
The advice follows research from Cornhill Direct which found that less than one-quarter of drivers would know what to do about cover if they were involved in a motoring incident abroad.
In addition, 75 per cent of respondents admitted to being "apprehensive" about getting behind the wheel in a foreign country.
"It's alarming that so many motorists fail to do their homework before they drive in a foreign country," said company spokesperson Mark Bishop.
"Motorists intending to drive their car abroad should talk to their insurer to make sure they are covered for every eventuality."
Cornhill Direct also advised drivers to take their vehicle registration document and driving licence when departing for a holiday.
Yesterday saw news on a similar theme from the RAC, which said that taking out motor insurance to cover driving abroad is "valuable" and just as important as travel insurance.
