Footy fans 'need car insurance'
Posted :13-08-2007
Loyal football fans planning to follow their team around the country this season are being reminded to take out adequate car insurance in case an accident should happen.
Research from car insurance company LV= found that fans of certain teams are likely to spend more time on the road and cover the most miles - with Sunderland lovers topping the chart.
It was discovered that fans of this team will drive an average of 7,581 miles throughout the season travelling from match to match, while Newcastle United's loyal army of supporters are expected to travel 7,509 miles.
Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Fulham fans are also likely to cover over 6,000 miles, with the average distance covered by a die-hard fan calculated as 5,554 miles.
But LV= spokesperson Andrew Beard warned footie fans to make sure they are suitably prepared.
"It's vital that fans who drive make sure their vehicles are well-maintained and that they have adequate insurance and breakdown cover," he said.
"No football fan wants to miss a big match because they are stuck at the side of the road without help."
The football season kicked off this weekend and lasts until May.
