Careless sat-nav owners 'may face increased car insurance claims'
Posted :20-08-2007
Drivers are still not taking enough care with satellite navigation (sat-nav) systems in their cars, which could result in them having to make car insurance claims, it has been announced.
A police patrol across the region of Cleethorpes and Grimsby spotted 14 sat-nav systems on prominent display in cars during a one-day patrol of the area.
Detective superintendent Mark Smith advised the Grimsby Telegraph earlier this year: "Sat-nav systems, chargers and even the system's mountings are some of the top items to be stolen from parked cars".
"Members of the public can help fight vehicle crime by ensuring their sat-nav systems or any other items are not left in their vehicles."
The Scunthorpe Telegraph reports that local residents were recently given kits including an anti-theft chemical which can be used to mark and identify valuable items including sat-nav systems, thereby reducing the risk of having to make a claim on car insurance.
