Check car insurance before "epic" journeys
Posted :23-08-2007
The state of Britain's airports is leading growing numbers of holidaymakers to take to their cars, a new study has shown.
Some 9.2 million British holidaymakers plan to go on holiday by car, according to insurance company Zurich, with 24 per cent of them planning on covering more than 750 miles in the course of their journeys.
And 34 per cent of those planning to go abroad admit to being nervous about driving in a foreign country, with a quarter particularly worried about ending up on the wrong side of the road.
More than one in ten are confused by foreign road signs and nine per cent have admitted to having near-misses on roads overseas.
With all this concern evident, it is surprising to learn that 28 per cent of those heading abroad in their cars do not check to see if their car insurance covers them for the countries they are visiting and 53 per cent are unaware as to what they are actually covered for.
Roy Seeds, head of motor underwriting at Zurich Insurance said, "While it might not be top of the 'to do' list before a holiday we urge motorists to give their insurer a quick call before they go as this will help speed up any potential claims."
Zurich also offers home insurance.
