Online car insurance quotes "easy"

More and more car insurance customers are taking advantage of the ease and simplicity - and frequently reduced rates - offered online.

Gone are the days when buying car insurance was a time-consuming and confusing affair. Today, many insurers provide single-page forms online which take only a few minutes to complete.

Nor does a customer have to wait until office hours; the internet permits insurance to be bought at any hour of the day or night.

For some car insurance companies, the numbers now buying online make up around half of all their new customers.

Churchill said its figure is around 50 per cent and only a minority of these end up calling the company for help in filling in their forms.

Emma Holyer, spokesperson for Churchill, said: "It's a quick process, it takes between two and three minutes. It's also only one page so it's very easy."

She added: "You fill your details in and it's all sent back to you so when your certificate arrives in the post you have to check it yourself."

Like many other car insurance providers, Churchill also offers a discount to encourage drivers to buy online.

Ms Hoyler pointed out that the company offers a "ten per cent discount off your premium".
