Motor insurance 'no great barrier' to taking caravans abroad
Posted :31-08-2007
Travelling abroad is "not too much of an issue" for motor insurance consumers, according to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba).
A spokesperson for Biba said that consumers considering a holiday abroad need not be discouraged by requiring insurance cover for their caravans.
He added that the majority of caravan policies already cover travel around Europe and recommended more attention to be paid on cover for consumer's cars as well as checking their policy to make sure that they are covered for travelling abroad.
"Normally, when the caravan in hitched up to a private car the liability risk is covered as part of the motor insurance," he said.
A recent study by Halifax Motor Insurance showed that over 17.5 million British motorists have taken a road trip holiday in the last 12 months, with the average motorist covering 861 miles while on their break.
