Motor insurance companies see modified cars as "high risk"
Posted :03-09-2007
The majority of car insurance companies will refuse to insure vehicles that have been modified, according to Modified Ride.
Nicholas Seal, spokesperson for the forum for owners of modified cars, stated that insurers often classify modified motors as "high risk" due to the number of younger drivers who own such vehicles often seen as wishing to "show off" in their cars.
Mr Seal added that modifying a vehicle does not necessarily add anything to its value as when drivers come to sell their vehicles they will need to find a buyer with similar tastes. He therefore advised owners to think carefully before carrying out any alterations to their ride.
Recent research carried out by Sainsbury's Bank indicated that motorists miss out on great car insurance deals by not shopping around, noting that one in five drivers only obtained a single quote when they last purchased cover for their vehicle.
