Shopping around 'can cut car insurance costs', says the Thrifty Scot
Posted :03-09-2007
Shopping around is just one of the ways to lower the costs of your car insurance, according to the Thrifty Scot.
The financial advice site states that by accepting a renewal quote, consumers will "always" end up overpaying as insurers offer their best deals to new customers.
A further recommendation from the site is to make use of the internet when shopping around as it can provide a quicker way to get quotes from a large number of providers.
On cars worth less than £1,000, the site states that third party, fire and theft might be a better cover option than taking out fully-comprehensive insurance due to the decreased likelihood of it being worth making costly repairs to a car should an accident occur.
Lying on an application to try and cut costs could also result in the invalidation of cover in the case of a claim being made, with the site advising that honesty is the best policy.
It was recently reported that according to the British Insurance Brokers' Association, travelling abroad is "not too much of an issue" for motor insurance consumers.
